Amsterdam has lots and lots of amazing food, from unlimited cheese to waffles topped with mountains of Nutella and whipped cream, we can guarantee you won’t go hungry in this city!
First, start the day right with an amazing brunch at The Avocado Show. Every single dish has avocado in some shape or form. From The Avo Rose, which is a rose avocado on toast, or The Bun Burger, where the avocado creates the burger bun. This place is literally any millennials’ dream (neon avocado light included!)
We both opted for the classic Eggs Benedict with a side of avocado rose, which was divine. Companied by fresh smoothie, made from avocado (obviously), banana, orange juice, blueberry and spinach — which was even more divine. We found it was the perfect place to set us up for a long day of exploring, walking and cycling.
The Avocado Show is also open at lunch if you wish to stop for a mid-day feast! Or we did spy avocado ice cream on the menu if you’re looking for an afternoon snack.
Speaking of afternoon snacks one place we would recommend is Albert Cuypmarkt, there are plenty of food stalls here to take your fancy, you can wander up and down sampling cheese, honey and more! However, the main reason we visited this market was Stroopwafels, more specifically the ‘Goudse Stroopwafels’ stand, as we’d heard on good authority these were the best in town.
Now, we ate a lot of Stroopwafels while in Amsterdam but we have to say these were the best we had! They are made freshly in front of you meaning they’re still warm and gooey as you eat them, you can even smoother them in chocolate if you wish. Making them the perfect mid-afternoon snack to give you that sugar kick to keep you exploring until dinner.
When it comes to dinner there are many options in Amsterdam, you can head to Rembrandt Square or famous names such as The Grasshopper or The Hoxton. However, if like us you’re unsure of what you fancy and would like a range to choose from then Foodhallen is the place for you.
Think of Foodhallen as Amsterdam’s answer to Lisbon’s Time Out Market. Whether you opt for traditional Dutch cuisine or something a little more exotic there are plenty of food stalls, so why not try more than one!? We decided to start our meal with some delicious Dim Sum from DimsumThing, followed by tasty Indian cuisine from Shirkhan. All washed down with gin and tonics from, you guessed it, The Gin Bar!
Throw in a picnic in Vondelpark and that’s your food journey through Amsterdam sorted, and if this hasn’t got your tummy rumbling then we don’t know what will! We absolutely loved all the food we tried in Amsterdam and would go back in a heart beat to do it all again.
